    AFL Wheelchair
    The VWFL exists to offer opportunities for participants/players who want to participate in a modified version of Australian Rules Football played in a wheelchair through ensuring there is a pathway from introductory programs through to an elite competition. With 5 AFL clubs and approximately 100 players involved in the competition, wheelchair football is set for another big season in 2023. Boroondara Sports Complex

    Come and join us at Boroondara Sport Complex with aspiring Para-Olympian Martyn Ford with the Australian Para Badminton Coach Dave Zhou. All abilities and skill levels welcome to have a go! Sport wheelchairs and equipment provided.

    BSRV Aquafit
    The Boroondara Leisure and Aquatic facilities team are currently designing an Aquafit water based program for people who are blind or vision impared in partnership with Blind Sport and Recreation Victoria.     BSRV Spin class Spin classes offer the opportunity to participate in organised indoor cycling and involve using a special stationary exercise bicycle with a weighted flywheel in a class setting. You will take part in interval training and higher intensity (race days), as well as recovery. Classes help build endurance and strength. Classes are suitable for people aged over 18.

    Boxing  This activity for visually impaired people includes practising combinations along with core strengthening exercises.     Gym class  Designed for vision impaired people, this gym class improves your strength and increases your heart rate through cardio-based exercises. The class is supervised by qualified professionals.

    Dance classes Designed for people with neurological disorders such as Parkinson’s and Huntington’s, this class involves chair-based movements that focus on coordination and functional movements. You’ll learn a dance while thinking about your movements and moving in time with the music.

    FitSkills The program matches a young person with disability with a mentor from their community. You will exercise together at your local gym for one hour, twice a week. The program runs for 12 weeks.

    We have a range of accessible equipment in our gym facilities such as recumbent bikes and aqua ergometers. Modifications can also be made to programming to assist you.     Accessible recreation swimming and lap swimming

    Each of the Boroondara Leisure and Aquatic Facilities provide accessible entry for lap swimming and recreational swimming. The following are available at the following facilities:

    • Ashburton Pool & Recreation Centre – pool pods to assist with access into warm water pool and indoor 25m pool;
    • Boroondara Sports Complex – pool hoist to assist with access into the 50m outdoor pool;
    • Hawthorn Aquatic & Leisure Centre – pool hoist/ramps access into the warm water pool and ramp to access 50m pool.

    WheelTalk
    WheelTalk is an interactive program that encourages people to think about diversity, acceptance and disability – with a primary focus on inclusion.

    Presented by Victorians with disability who are actively involved in sport and recreation, WheelTalk combines unique stories of lived disability with the opportunity to play up to an hour of Wheelchair AFL, Wheelchair Basketball, or Wheelchair Rugby.

    WheelTalk sessions run for up to 90 minutes but can be tailored to suit your community group, sporting club, or school group needs.
